Much ado about nothing: We're stressing about Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF) claims and #SBTi alignment in a universe where aviation operators simply just need to get started. A majority of aviation emissions will be reported under the wings of compliance markets like #CORSIA and #EUETS. Unlikely that we see a widespread adoption of SBTi within aviation as the sector reports its emissions under carbon markets and will move with the overarching goals of those markets rather than SBTi. So, let's fill the plane on destination SAF!Let's work on simple and robust tools to get them off the ground. We need effortless record keeping systems and procurement arms in place to ensure seamless usage of SAF, whether for voluntary or for compliance needs. Read the reflections shared by Zaffra CEO, Jan Toschka, after engagements this week at Farnborough Airshow, MFUG conferences and many other engagements. ✈ "In essence, we discussed what it takes and what to expect from the various players to accelerate SAF growth. 🤝 Given the significant capital requirement for SAF production, it is very encouraging to see many new funding partnerships between Airlines, OEMs and corporate customers being launched. It also underpins that SAF becomes ‘core business’ of this industry, similarly demonstrated by growing number of Airlines announcing ticket price increases to fund the cost for SAF. Well done! 📈 Needless to say that such price increase is an unpopular message to give to customers. That said, recently we have seen significant ticket price volatility (not to mention price for luggage, for avoiding middle seats, etc.) and still aviation keeps growing and growing. Passing on the SAF costs to the passenger’s ticket price is not only unavoidable, it will also reduce market (offtake) risks and, therefore, strengthen bankability of SAF production which is an imperative for aviation’s decarbonization.
