Feeling Empty? Discover the One Source That Truly Satisfies (2024)

TODAY'S TEACHING

He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good. - Psalm 107:9

Ever had a moment with God that filled you up like nothing else?

That’s because He’s the only One who can truly satisfy that deep longing in your soul.

Chasing after money, relationships, or even life’s best blessings—they might excite you for a while, but they’ll never keep you full.

Think about it: happiness depends on what’s happening, but joy?

Real joy is anchored in God, unshaken by what’s going on around you.

If we put Him first, He promises to add everything else we need (Matthew 6:33).

But we often run to other things first, wondering why we still feel empty.

I’ll never forget a season in my life many years ago when I thought I had everything figured out.

I was working hard, going after my dreams, and making good money.

I had the house, the job, the busy calendar—everything I thought would make me feel fulfilled.

But the truth?

I was still empty, and it didn’t matter how much I achieved or how many things I added to my life.

Something was always missing, like a hunger that just wouldn’t go away.

One day, in the middle of all the noise, I sensed God nudging me to slow down, to stop chasing after everything and leaving Him with the leftovers.

So, reluctantly, I set aside extra time each morning to just be in His presence and dig into His Word.

And let me tell you—that filled me in a way nothing else ever did.

Day by day, I started experiencing this quiet, steady peace, something no paycheck or promotion could touch.

I realized that every bit of joy I’d been looking for in all the “right” things was right there, wrapped up in Him.

Now, I’m not saying those blessings aren’t wonderful.

They are and I'm deeply grateful for His goodness.

But they’re just the icing on the cake, and God is the cake itself.

If we only look for satisfaction in what’s happening around us, we’ll keep running on empty.

But when we feast on our relationship with Him and His Word, and fill ourselves with His presence daily, that’s when we find a lasting fullness that nothing else can give.

Just like you plan your meals to nourish your body, you’ve got to feed your spirit and soul, too.

You wouldn’t skip meals, so don’t skip time with God.

Seek Him as eagerly as you seek your next meal—with as much diligence as you can muster.

Only then will you find that lasting, deep-down satisfaction you’re searching for.

If thisresonateswith you, here's a short prayer you can say today:

"Dear God, I come to You because, honestly, I don't want to chase things that don’t fill me up. I’ve run after so much that looked good, felt exciting, and promised joy, but it all leaves me wanting. Only You can satisfy this deep hunger in my spirit and soul. Help me keep You first, Lord—teach me to seek You like my next breath, knowing You’re the only One who can truly fill me. Amen."

God bless you!

Your brother in Christ,

Daniel

TODAY'S QUESTIONS

1. What are some things in your life that you've been chasing for satisfaction, and how do they compare to the fulfillment God provides?

We all have things we’ve chased—maybe it's the perfect career, a relationship, or just wanting to feel good about ourselves. And while these things might lift us for a moment, they don’t stick around when life gets tough. With God, though, there’s a depth and peace that doesn’t waver. His presence fills us up in ways those other pursuits can’t, giving us the kind of joy that doesn't depend on anything or anyone else. Glory to God!

2. How can relying on Father God daily bring a deeper sense of peace and joy, even when life gets challenging?

When we rely on God daily, we’re like a tree with deep roots—storms might come, but we’re not uprooted. Life has its fair share of ups and downs, and sometimes it feels like the ground’s shaking. But God's peace, that steady, divine calm He gives us, isn't based on circumstances. His joy, too, isn’t something we have to work up. It’s a gift, waiting for us each day as we lean on Him instead of trying to handle it all alone.

3. What are practical ways to put the Lord first and make Him the center of your heart’s desires?

Putting God first isn’t about grand gestures. It’s often about small, consistent steps. Spending time with Him each morning, even if it’s just five minutes, starts the day with His peace. Talking to Him throughout the day, like you would with a close friend, and soaking up His Word like our daily bread keeps our hearts steady and full. When we do this, He naturally becomes the center of our hearts and everything else falls into place (always keep God first).

4. Why do you think God allows us to feel emptiness when we prioritize other things over Him?

That emptiness? It’s like a nudge from God, reminding us that nothing else will do. When we try to fill our lives with other things—no matter how good they are—we still feel that tug, that hunger. It’s His way of drawing us back, showing us that the fullness we’re looking for is only found in Him. He doesn’t let us get too comfortable so we can keep coming back to the real Source of peace and joy.

5. How can we regularly ‘feed’ our spirits and souls, and what impact might that have on our relationship with the Lord and others?

Feeding our spirits and souls is a lot like feeding our bodies—daily, regular nourishment is key. Spending time in God’s Word, praying, worshiping, and just being still in His presence fills us up in a way that makes a difference in every area of our lives. When we’re full of God’s peace and love, it spills over into how we treat others, react to challenges, and live our lives. And over time, it transforms us, deepening our relationship with Him and helping us shine His light and love wherever we go.
