In this seminar, we will explore the reasons why clients may consider bariatric surgery.This is a procedure to reduce the size of the stomach and there are several different types of surgeryavailable. Bariatric surgery can be available on the NHS if certain criteria is met, and in private hospitals and abroad. Each provider uses a different frame of reference which we will explore.Using a fictitious case, we will follow the journey of a client undergoing bariatric surgery, exploring ethicalissues, internalised fatphobia, weight and size unconscious bias. New statewide referral criteria are now in effect for joint pain and plastic surgery in public hospitals.
